EUROPEAN PREVIEW - POLAND

Round 2 of the PGE Ekstraliga season takes place across Easter weekend, with Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley both in action on Sunday.

Lambert’s Torun side, who kicked off with an impressive home win over Wroclaw last week, now make the trip to Gorzow and they will be confident of enjoying success on the road.

For Lambert it will be an early season trip to a venue which will stage a Grand Prix in June, and the meeting will see him go up against Martin Vaculik and Andzejs Lebedevs along with former GP rider Anders Thomsen.

Bewley, meanwhile, will look to help get Wroclaw off the mark when they face Zielona Gora, and the home side will certainly be favourites against opponents who were hammered at home by champions Lublin last week.

There are no GP riders in the Zielona Gora side this season, although Leon Madsen is undoubtedly of that level, but the visitors will also need the likes of Przemyslaw Pawlicki, Rasmus Jensen and Jarek Hampel to be in top form if they are to have any chance of an upset.

Lublin commence the weekend’s racing when they take on troubled Czestochowa at home, where anything other than a comfortable victory for the treble title winners would be a major surprise.

Meanwhile Saturday’s other fixture is an intriguing clash between Grudziadz and Rybnik with GKM having high hopes for the season, especially after their win at Czestochowa, whilst Nicki Pedersen returns to one of his former clubs with the visitors, who made a great start to life in the top-flight with victory over Gorzow last week.

Another former GKM rider, Gleb Chugunov, has once again been left out of the Rybnik team.

Action in Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga is also split over two days, with Tom Brennan making his home debut for Bydgoszcz as they look to continue a winning start to the season when they meet Rzeszow.

The meeting takes place on Saturday afternoon with Brennan’s opponents including Keynan Rew, who he has regularly faced in the UK over the last two seasons.

Elsewhere, the match between Tarnow and Ostrow was put back due to continuing stadium works, and the other two fixtures take place on Sunday.

Krosno and Leszno were both winners first time out and they meet in what promises to be a lively contest, although the visitors have been hampered by the broken scaphoid suffered by Ben Cook at King’s Lynn last week.

Sunday’s other fixture sees Poznan, who picked up a draw at Rzeszow in their opener, take on Lodz who slipped to a heavy home defeat last week.

The three National Speedway League fixtures this weekend all take place on Sunday, with two of the opening round winners Gniezno and Gdansk meeting in the top match.

The two sides are the leading promotion contenders this season with an historic rivalry, and Adam Ellis lines up at No.1 for the home side in a meeting which will see him take on the likes of Niels-Kristian Iversen and Benjamin Basso.

Elsewhere, Richard Lawson makes his debut for Krakow as they return to league competition with a home match against Opole, whilst the league’s two ‘foreign’ clubs meet as Landshut face Daugavpils.
