Great Britain cruise to SoN Finals

Great Britain Speedway Team is heading to Russia after winning 2019 Speedway of Nations Event Two in Manchester on Saturday night.

In front of a packed crowd at the National Speedway Stadium, our trio of Tai Woffinden, Craig Cook and Robert Lambert cruised to victory with 26 points, with nearest rivals Australia back on 22.

We had a fortuitous start, with Woffinden and Cook benefitting from Dmitri Berge’s mechanical failure in the opening race to secure a 5-1 before they packed in for second and third against Denmark in the second race.

From then, though, the boys were unstoppable. Robert Lambert joined the party with two wins and Woffinden reeled off a hat-trick of victories too to send the capacity crowd into raptures.

It was another great night for the team, with all three team members contributing, and team boss Alun Rossiter was delighted with the performance: “The boys were brilliant all night and I can’t speak highly enough of them, it was a proper team effort.

“We knew we had to be in the top three but we wanted to come here and win, we wanted to make a bit of a statement and we did that. All three of the riders were superb, they worked as a team and their attitude was first class.

“We can start planning for Russia now but we’ll go there full of confidence and we know that we’re in a good place. Overall it was a great night and it was brilliant for us to be able to send our fans home happy.”

We now have over two months to prepare for the finals, which take place in Togliatti, Russia on July 20 & 21.
