Currently second in the standings, Torun head to point-less Zielona Gora on Sunday, and with the Round 5 clash between Grudziadz and Lublin having been put back due to the weather, victory will send Lambert’s side to the summit.

A poor forecast led to an early postponement of the GKM/Lublin match, which was supposed to take place on Friday, and they have now rescheduled for next Sunday (May 18) following the Grand Prix at Warsaw. So the door is open, for one week at least, for the league to have new leaders, and Torun will be confident of inflicting another defeat on Zielona Gora – although the home side did only narrowly lose their local derby at Gorzow last week, with Leon Madsen displaying an encouraging return to form.

Przemyslaw Pawlicki and Jarek Hampel are the other big threats to Lambert and Torun, who are unbeaten from their first four matches having dropped their only point in a 45-45 draw when they visited Gorzow.

Friday’s surviving fixtures sees Dan Bewley in action for Wroclaw, who can move up to third place with a home win over Gorzow.

Having won at Grudziadz last week, Wroclaw appear well set to keep up their form with Brady Kurtz having proved a strong signing so far, whilst the visitors include GP riders Martin Vaculik and Andzejs Lebedevs who finished third in Landshut last weekend.

The other remaining match in Round 5 takes place on Sunday where two sides in the lower half of the table meet with Czestochowa facing Rybnik.

That means a rapid return to his old home track for former World Under-21 Champion Maksym Drabik, who spent two years with Czestochowa.

The Round 4 fixtures in Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga kicked off on Thursday where Ostrow got off the mark in 2025 with a thumping 58-32 win over Lodz as the two sides exchanged places in the table.

Veteran Grzegorz Walasek, at 48 years of age, top scored for the home side, whilst Luke Becker added 12+1 and Frederik Jakobsen scored 12. Former King’s Lynn rider Patryk Wojdylo picked up nine points for Lodz.

Elsewhere this weekend, Tom Brennan has a big match at home for Bydgoszcz on Sunday as they host unbeaten leaders Krosno in a clash of two early promotion contenders.

Brennan is named at No.4 in the line-up meaning his first race in Heat 3 is against one of his rivals from the UK Premiership, Tobiasz Musielak who will be looking to take Krosno to a fourth win out of four.

The other two Round 4 matches take place next Sunday, whilst it’s a blank weekend in the National Speedway League with fixtures originally scheduled for Pila and Daugavpils having recently been rescheduled.
