Kyle Bickley has vowed to make “serious progress” with Great Britain for the 2020 season.
The Cumbrian, who has just signed for Berwick, made his World Under-21 Team final debut for his country at Belle Vue. The Brit kids secured Silver behind Poland which added another gong to Bickley’s medal haul in his short career. But now he wants to grab a place in the senior squad for the Global Challenge Series next season.
He said: “I’ve got a target in my head to race for Great Britain. I was pretty disappointed to miss out against Denmark in October. It was pretty awesome to get named in the team at reserve but then Belle Vue Colts had a fixture put on that date and I couldn’t race for Great Britain. Drew Kemp and Anders Rowe did a great job that night against the Danish young kids but I want to make up for that next season.
“It was good to get Silver in the World Under-21 Team final but I was very disappointed in my own performance. We had mechanical issues which really stopped me scoring like I wanted to. But I know this is all a big learning curve. I’m getting more experience all the time and if I can get in the Global Challenge Series team I want to make serious progress next year.”

Bickley, currently racing in Australia, is delighted to be joining up with Berwick for 2020 after a very successful season with Glasgow in the Championship. He said: “I’m very happy to be at Berwick. I think it’s a very special club with possibly the most team spirit anywhere in Speedway.
“I know all the boys there so I think I’ll feel at home really quickly. That will be important to me. I’ve not really wanted to move for the past two seasons. I was happy at Workington and then at Glasgow. I would have preferred a long run at a club but that’s just not the way Speedway works. But these things happen for a reason. I like everyone at Berwick. I was in the same team with Leon (Flint) at Belle Vue Colts and we’ll start the season as a reserve pairing so that will probably push us both on.
“I must admit after all the mess of last winter, it’s good to be sorted with a Championship team before Christmas. I can now prepare properly and invest in equipment. I feel very confident about next year.
“I’d like to thank Jamie Courtney and Gary Flint, they’ve been totally solid over the past couple of weeks. I’m looking forward to racing for them and Berwick.”
